The Mercedes 190 SL perfectly illustrates the importance of listening to feedback. After the 300 SL was introduced, an American Mercedes importer commented that although many were interested, the 300 SL still proved too expensive for the average consumer looking for a weekend car. After a conversation with the head office in Germany, action was taken quickly; that same year, the 190 SL (based on the Ponton) was unveiled at the New York Stock Exchange. A year later, the production version was ready and presented in Geneva. Remarkably, the car was not positioned as a sports car, but as a comfortable two-seater. This proved to be a great success, with more than 25,000 units rolling off the German production line between 1955 and 1963.
Our 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL has undergone a complete restoration by the previous owner in the Netherlands. This restoration has been carried out with attention to detail, with the intention of restoring the car to the same quality and authenticity as when it first left the factory. Every part has been carefully overhauled. Can you imagine driving around with the feeling that the car has just come out of the factory, while the music of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones is playing in the background?
